09/01/2014 - The truth about abs

We all look at the advertisements or the big guys in the gym, watch them crank out 100 crunches with ease and think in our mind, I will do that and look like that too.

Remember you only see what this person does or what the advertisement says will make it happen, you then associate this suggestion or action with the sure way to get your six pack result. Trust me if taking a tablet gave you abs, I would have had them years ago.  If doing countless sit-ups and crunches gave you abs, I would have had them earlier than when I started taking the "miracle" pills.

Don't get me wrong, crunches, sit-ups and other various core exercises will strengthen and build your abs, BUT, on top of the abdominal muscles is a layer of fat.  In fact, if you only focus on building the muscles and not reducing the fat on top, you will in fact look like your belly is sticking out more!

To make your abs show is mostly about what  and when you put things in your mouth.  Abs are created in the kitchen, not in the gym.  Raising your metabolism and burning off that layer of fat will guarantee your abs will show, BUT, sorry for another but, but, you will need a body fat content of below 10%, trust me, this is no easy feat!  Consistent commitment is the secret here and it will take, well, as long as it takes.

Sure some intense cardio will help and exercises like planks, hill sprints and knee raises will be far more beneficial than the standard sit up which most of the population don't perform with a correct technique anyway.
