02/02/2014 - Gym or not
I am always amazed at the amount of people that, in a fit of emotion, sign up to a gym and gradually fail to go therefore just wasting their hard earned cash.
I teach people, regardless of their goals, that really, you don't need a gym to get to your goals. Don't misunderstand me, if you use a gym membership and all the apparatus and offerings they have of course you will benefit from it and of course, typically it is a great investment. Do we have to go to the gym to reach or maintain our goals, NO, we don't.
Please keep in mind, health and fitness is a commitment to consistently eating right, being involved in activity and ensuring good rest. This in mind, you won't be buying a gym membership every day until you pass?
For Mums with bub, you will only be able to participate in activity around your now busy lifestyle and more likely than not with your baby, great, you can do this at home, near you home, in fact pretty much wherever you are and sometimes include your baby while they are asleep.
For those wanting to tone up, body weight exercises are great and of course can be performed anywhere at any time.
For those wanting to lose body fat, well, most of your work will be in the kitchen, I mean, what you do and don't put in your mouth and your activity can be walking, or better, if you have a pool. If you are carrying lots of body fat, walking on the pool in neck deep water is great, the water supports your body, reducing the chance of injury, keeps you cool and provides a great resistance.
For those that want to build up muscle mass, it can be done without a gym of course but, yes, nothing beats lifting heavy weights to put on mass.
The one thing that people always say is, but the gym helps motivate me, or the gym membership helps motivate me, well, maybe short term, but your motivation has to come from within. You have to make your health and fitness decision to part of your life as much as eating food and sleeping is so should activity be.
It really is simple, let us show you how to use your environment to reach or maintain your fitness goals and save you money along the way.
